Aldi has opened eight new stores in one day, with 24 stores overall expected to have opened by the end of December, with around 840 new jobs created.

The new stores in Islington, Glasgow, Chellaston, Eckington, Longridge, Oldham, Skelton and Bodmin are part of a tranche of 24 new Aldis that are opening throughout November and December.

The retailer is also upgrading three of its stores through its ‘Project Fresh’ refurbishment programme during this time.

The store openings in the final two months of the year will create around 840 new jobs and are part of Aldi’s long-term target of 1,200 UK stores by 2025.

Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK, said: “We’ve stepped up our store opening programme in the run-up to Christmas so that more shoppers can enjoy fantastic quality products, at prices they can afford, throughout the festive period.

“With new stores opening right across the country, stocking our largest-ever festive range, we’re all set to help our customers enjoy an amazing Christmas.”

Aldi has opened over 70 new stores during 2018 and currently has more than 800 UK stores.
