Chief executive of Nestle Mark Schneider said that the company was experiencing some labour and transport issues, but is working with retailers to supply them.

When asked by the BBC whether he could guarantee products would be in the shops this Christmas, Schneider replied: “We are working hard.”

Nestle, which own brands such as Quality Street, KitKat and Lion, has been impacted by the ongoing HGV driver shortages.

This news comes after the government announced that up to 5,000 HGV drivers will be able to work in the UK until the end of February , through the Temporary Workers route. Up to 5,500 poultry workers will also be able to come to the UK to help out with the run-up to Christmas.

On the back of the announcement, the government stated that the UK has “a highly resilient” food supply chain which has “coped well in responding to unprecedented challenges.”
