Food manufacturer Peter’s Food has recorded a further 48 coronavirus cases at its site in Bedwas, Caerphilly after a spate of cases last week forced the firm to carry out more than 600 tests.

Following 19 positive cases last week, Peter’s Food set up a mobile testing unit outside of the factory and, as a result of the mass testing, a further 48 cases were confirmed. The news follows an outbreak of 119 cases in Caerphilly this week.

Despite the cases, Peter’s said had produced 96% of its normal sale last week and are operating at “nearly normal” this week.

A statement from the company said: “Peter’s focus is and will continue to be safeguarding the health of all colleagues.

“It is key that everyone, both in and outside of work, comply with social distancing measures to avoid transmission in the factory environment and at home to their family members.”
