Online recipe box service, Mindful Chef, announced the appointment of former Marks & Spencer head of food, online and strategy, Tim Lee, as CEO.

With previous senior roles in food and retail, including positions with M&S and Tesco, Lee is said to bring with him a wealth of experience in grocery, digital, marketing and strategy.

Lee will start in his new role with immediate effect spearheading a new business strategy for 2019 and taking over the position from CEO and co-founder, Rob Grieg-Gran.

Grieg-Gran and co-founders Giles Humphries and Myles Hopper will remain involved in the day to day running of the business.

Founded by three school friends from Devon, Mindful Chef has delivered more than one million meals since its launch in 2015.

The business’s annualised revenue has seen increased growth from £1 million to £10 million in two years.

Previous to his four years at M&S, Lee held senior executive roles at Tesco over a period of 15 years, both in the UK and internationally (Europe and USA).

Roles included director of UK food marketing, where he managed Tesco brands such as Finest and Value, with sales in excess of £2.5bn, and director of produce group sourcing, which he set up and grew to over £500m sales.

Grieg-Gran said: “With over 24 years of experience within the food and drink industry, Tim’s wealth of experience will be invaluable as we look to our next phase of growth.

“He is a creative and practical business leader with a passion for growing food-focused and e-commerce businesses, making him perfectly suited to come on board.

“Mindful Chef is in a fantastic position as the UK’s favourite healthy recipe box and Tim will undoubtedly leverage our capabilities to grow our business even further.”

Lee added: “Mindful Chef is an exciting brand and the team are passionate about creating healthy, delicious and convenient food.

“With health continuing to grow in importance for customers and the channel shift to online, Mindful Chef is in an ideal position to make its mark in the food industry – and I’m looking forward to guiding the business as we step into this new phase of growth and innovation on our journey to help people live healthier lives and build a business as a force for good.”
